Kardex correct: 1954 Porsche 356 Coupé

p1

Among the thousands of Porsche 356 ads seen in years of activity, it is the first time that we find a car that does not have the original engine but that can still be called “matching numbers”.

p3

In fact the seller says that, although the engine currently installed is not the original equipment, the current unit installed in 1959 is reported in the certificate of authenticity issued by the factory. The first owner probably broke the original engine and took the car to the factory for an “official” replacement: a very rare case.

p2

The car was sold new in Germany and has a partially known history, and probably never came out of Europe. As you can clearly see a car that needs a full restoration but there are many new metal sheets and it seems to be 90% complete. The price is not low but not crazy at the same time. Find it for sale at €77,500 (today $88,000) here in Rijen, Netherlands.
