Update, September 29: Reader Quasimodo has bought this car to restore it. It’s not a job for the fearful: stay tuned on his progress checking periodically his progress here: http://fiat1500ghiarestoration.blogspot.nl/

This 1500 GT was made by Ghia using the chassis and the engine of the Fiat 1500: back then it was a respectable little sports car which was priced significantly less than a Giulia Sprint.

This particular car is in need of a ground-up restoration starting from the big ding on he front “bumper”: basically the whole car must be disassembled and stripped to begin a proper restoration job. The engine is in its place – even if without the air cleaner box – and it is easibly rebuildable.

That’s a huge work for sure but, as an italian coachbuilt car, everything is there: these cars are a nighmare if some parts like glasses, bumpers and especially interior trims are missing. In this case the car looks basically complete so it’s a good starting point. Find it for sale at $9,750 here in Los Angeles, CA.

I would love to own a Fiat-Ghia 1500 GT – I wonder what the restoration would cost…

Dan, like most restoration jobs the bodywork is the most expensive part as it implies a lot of man-hours. On these cars, engine, transmission and suspensions/brakes are not expensive as parts are easily available. If there is not much rotisserie job and you manage to retrieve parts by yourself, you should add $40,000 to this asking price for a nearly perfect job.
