Blue twelve: 1989 Jaguar XJ-S V12 Convertible – Lister Aero Package

The Jaguar XJ-S Convertible arrived relatively late in the model’s long career, combining the 5.3-litre V12 with a factory open body rather than the earlier aftermarket conversions. By 1989 the XJ-S had developed into a mature grand tourer, but cars fitted with period Lister components occupy a more unusual corner of its history. Lister offered aerodynamic, wheel, suspension and performance modifications for the XJ-S, although the specification of individual cars varied considerably and the authenticity of any claimed Lister package deserves careful documentation.

This 1989 example is presented as a one-owner car with approximately 29,000 original miles. Finished in Westminster Blue with grey leather and walnut trim, it is said to have been ordered with a Lister aerodynamic package including the distinctive front and rear bodywork and Lister-style wheels visible in the photographs. Other equipment includes a power-operated convertible top, air conditioning, power seats and windows, wood steering wheel and gear selector, Euro-style headlights and a period front and rear radar system. The seller reports that the V12 runs smoothly and that the major electrical and convenience systems remain operational. Original manuals, service records, window sticker and spare keys are also said to accompany the car.

The photographs show an unusually well-preserved XJ-S, with the odometer displaying 28,482 miles and an interior that appears consistent with limited use. Before attributing additional value to the Lister connection, however, prospective buyers should examine the original window sticker and period invoices to establish exactly which components were installed when new and by whom, since a body kit and wheels alone do not necessarily make the car a Lister-built or Lister-converted XJ-S. The low mileage and claimed single ownership are attractive independently of that question, but both should be confirmed against the accompanying records.
