The other star: 1962 Mercedes-Benz L319

Compared to its competitor by definition, the VW Typ 2 also known as Bus / Kombi / Samba depending on the model, this Mercedes is only slightly larger but much rarer.

Surely because, just for the mere fact of having the brand with the three-pointed star, this vehicle was already starting from a much higher price point. Furthermore, this vehicle was not designed for “retail” customers but was a typical vehicle intended for the most diverse businesses and adaptable according to the purpose. In its first version, it was fitted with the 190SL derivative engine: very robust therefore, but also very slow.

It follows that those left around are very few and, at least for now, not overrated as VW have been for twenty years: this specimen is said to have belonged to an American artist who customized it with the application, on the outside, of wrought iron friezes and painted the interiors. In this regard it is a pity that there are no photos of the interior apart from the driver’s area, but in general it looks like a van that can be enjoyed even without restoration. Find it for sale at €25,000 (today $26,500) here in Aqui Terme, Italy.
