Rallye specs: 1971 Ford Escort MKI

It’s not easy to find one of these Ford Escort MKI with the LHD option ad they’re even scarcer in the U.S.A., where this car actually is.

That’s because these Fords were built by the british subsidiary so they were sold mostly in UK and, in smaller numbers, in the rest of Europe. Very few were born as RS (the model used by UK Ford to join the Rallye world championship) and when you find one of them, the asking price is often near 100K.

This project have been already set up well:  the seller says that it started from a rust-free shell with works steel “bubble arches”, NOS bonnet, 6-dial instrument binnacle, Ford RS steering wheel. Pinto 2.0L engine w/ modified head (David Vizard specs), Twin 42 DCOE Webers, mandrel-bent headers, BW T-10 trans, rebuilt rear end and a spare hi-performance engine. Not bad for a very funny project. Find it for sale here in Elgin, IL, with bidding at $2,800 and reserve not met.
