#46: 1960 Triumph Italia 2000 Coupé by Vignale

Here it is another Italia 2000, this time with body #46. It is speculated to be a former italian car (like the 90% of all Italia 2000 produced) and to have been restored in 1998 and then imported in Netherlands.

As we have experience with the Italia 200o, we can say that’s a good car, albeit not the best we’ve seen so far: some exterior details are wrong like the front grille which seems not the original one as well as the side blinkers; the rear plate lights assembly seem not correct as well, probably taken from another car. The front badge is the “Michelotti Design”: there should be the “Italia 2000” badge. Interiors are quite correct with the exception of the rear view mirror. The seller says that the car is painted in Old English White but the correct shade of the paint is “Bianco Pergamena”.

The engine bay looks honest although not in concours conditions: the seller says that the car is equipped with a late Kenlowe fan which is a must on these cars. Basically, what we have here is a good car with a top asking price. Find it for sale at €84,500 (today $116,000) here in Waalwijk, Netherlands.

Good ad, nice pictures, nice car and I see the prices on these are rising considerably, if this dealer gets his way.

  2. Classicvirus says:

Indeed the car is very well advertised, however that is a top price but the car isn’t. I’d say that this car is 7 on 10.

  3. Jeffrey Hamilton says:

Personally, I believe they are well overpriced at $100K, but that’s just me. I don’t know enough about this model to recognize any faults, unless it’s something glaring and I haven’t studied all these photos yet, but I’ll accept your evaluation of a 7 out of 10. In your estimation what would you value this car at ?

  4. Classicvirus says:

I can just say that the silver Italia featured here on CV was a perfect specimen. It was for sale at €65k and it needed almost one year to be sold. Imho, this one isn’t worthy at all more than that one.

I have the original Michelotti design sketch of the Italia and its beautiful historical piece and looks more like the first prototype made which didn’t have the grille but a sleeker front more like the Spitfire
