Lemon shark: 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Coupé

The 1969 Corvette represents the second year of the C3 generation, retaining the dramatic “shark” body while refining the details introduced in 1968. This example was special-ordered in Daytona Yellow and equipped with the 350-ci/300-hp V8, Turbo-Hydramatic 400 automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, tinted glass, tilt-telescopic steering column, AM/FM radio and whitewall tyres. The original dealer-installed luggage rack remains part of the car’s period specification.

What makes this Corvette particularly interesting is the depth of its documentation and the decision to preserve its cosmetic age rather than restore it visually. The seller describes it as a two-owner California car and includes the original window sticker, Protect-O-Plate, tank sticker, previous registrations, a copy of the first title and the original special-order paperwork. The engine, transmission and rear differential are said to be original to the car, along with components such as the carburetor, distributor, smog pump, A/C compressor, starter, exhaust manifolds and wheels. The mechanical restoration was extensive, with many NOS GM parts used, including +.030 pistons, connecting rods, camshaft, lifters, valves and springs.

The paint is intentionally left old and faded, with partial repainting and nose repairs dating from the 1980s, plus visible flaking on the hood and one T-top. That makes this less of a concours restoration and more of a mechanically rebuilt survivor-style driver. The interior is described as largely original apart from the carpet and seat covers, while the weatherstripping has been renewed. The seller has already driven roughly 3,000 miles since the rebuild, which is useful evidence that the car is not simply a freshly assembled static restoration. For a buyer interested in originality and documentation rather than perfect cosmetics, that balance is arguably the strongest part of the car. Find it for sale at $35,000 here in Petaluma, CA.
