For classic car aficionados, the 1967 Fiat Dino 2000 Spider represents a blend of Italian artistry and Ferrari engineering. This particular model is a rare survivor, off the road since 1990.
The Fiat Dino was born from a collaboration between Fiat and Ferrari, driven by the need to homologate Ferrari’s V6 engine for Formula 2 racing. Introduced at the Turin Motor Show in 1966, the Fiat Dino Spider featured the same 2.0-liter V6 engine that would later power the Ferrari Dino 206 GT. Designed by Pininfarina, the Spider’s elegant lines and dual headlights were inspired by Ferrari’s racing prototypes. Under the hood lies the Tipo 135 B 000 engine, a 2.0-liter DOHC V6 with an aluminum block and heads, capable of producing 160 horsepower at 7200 rpm. This engine was a nice piece of engineering, reflecting the expertise of both Vittorio Jano and Aurelio Lampredi. The Fiat Dino’s advanced engineering also included a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, ensuring excellent performance and handling.
What makes this particular Fiat Dino 2000 Spider stand out is its originality and survivor status. Despite being off the road since 1990, its well-preserved condition makes it an ideal candidate for the preservation class at concours events. This category rewards vehicles that maintain their original condition, showcasing their historical integrity. However, it’s important to note that this Dino no longer has its original Dinoplex ignition system, which has been replaced. While this might be a concern for some purists, it does not significantly detract from the car’s overall authenticity and historical value. With only 1,133 units of the 2.0-liter Spider ever produced, finding such an original example is exceedingly rare. The car’s sleek metallic blue exterior paired with a black interior further enhances its appeal. Find it for sale at $79,500 here in Astoria, NY.
