Here is another rare 2600 Spider in almost original condition that has emerged from nowhere after a 40-year hibernation: we can say that this long sleep has not harmed it.
Of course, after four decades of inactivity, the engine is unlikely to want to wake up and will probably need to be completely rebuilt, especially since the starting conditions of it are not known. However, these Alfa twin-cam engines are tough to kill, and we are quite convinced that, after an oil change, spark plugs, cleaning of the tank, and filters, this engine would wake up quite easily.
The seller says that the car is in extraordinary conditions of originality, and indeed all components seem correct and in place. What we have never understood – and if any expert would like to contribute, it is well accepted – is that the standard color palette of the 2600 Spider only had five colors, among which Graphite Gray, the color this car is painted in, was certainly not present. We have seen others painted in different, non-standard colors, and we do not understand if these were post-production interpretations or if these vehicles could be painted in colors on request. The asking price for this car is not low, but we assure you, from painful and direct experience, that for every extra dollar spent on purchasing a 2600 Spider in good condition, you will save twice in the restoration phase. Find it for sale at $69,500 here in Astoria, NY.
