To rustore: 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint

It’s not an April Fool’s joke but one of the now very few Giulietta Sprints that haven’t been crushed by some wrecker, or left in a yard to rot until there’s nothing left, or completely restored.

Indeed, the car has the typical “barn find” appearance: a complete car, with all its components in place, fundamentally sound but still in need of a thorough refresh, and this is where a series of possibilities arise. The option of a full high-level restoration is, in our opinion, equivalent to financial suicide: in the end, you’ll have a stunning car, but after spending $60-80 thousand on a car that, at best, is worth $50 thousand on the market. Today, the restoration of these cars no longer commands the prices of 10-15 years ago when, with a budget of $40k, you could aspire to a restoration of a good standard.

The second option is to restore it with an improvement approach: a more powerful engine, updated and enhanced brakes, a stiffer suspension to make it a hot rod. In this case, the expenses are still high but in the case of resale, a new and generally very lively market segment would open up as it happened in recent years. The last approach: Overhaul the engine, gearbox, brakes, interiors, and leave the rest as it is, with plenty of rusty patina, in short, a lot of fun and less expense. Find it for sale at $8,900 here in San José, CA.
