“Der Afro” was the nickname that had Paul Breitner, a german football player during the 70s, included in the list of the 100 best players ever and, last but not least, FIFA world champion in 1974. If you search for some his photo on the web, you will immediately understand where his nickname comes from.
Our champion was also the first owner of this Bitter CD, a car built by hand in Germany by the Baur bodywork, using the chassis of the Opel Diplomat, but in this case powered by a 327 c.i. Chevrolet V8 engine. If the lines of the car remind you of something, know that it is not strange: the body was designed by Frua, the same who designed the body of the Maserati Indy: in the case of the Bitter CD, the designers were a bit lazy.
The fact remains that the car is very beautiful to look at, it has the power of 230 hp so it is certainly not slow and will certainly also have a nice sound, as well as being very well finished internally, although it uses a lot of Opel components. But let’s not forget that this still remains a German car built in years when things were built in order to last as long as possible. This specimen seems to have never been restored (and we believe it): a pity only for the automatic gearbox. Find it for sale at €75,000 (today $83,000) here in Brescia, Italy.
