Dull pine: 1970 Alfa Romeo GT Junior

When you see a mirror-like glossy paint finish on a car that’s 50 years old or more, and someone tries to pass it off as the original paint, show them this photo. We don’t deny that there may be exceptions to the rule, but the truth is that the lead-based paints used back then don’t stand the test of time well: the Pine Green on this GT Junior has now turned completely dull — unappealing from an aesthetic point of view, but extremely fascinating from a collector’s perspective. It reveals a car which, though showing its age — like all of us past 40 — carries that sense of time that a shiny respray will never convey. The listing only has one photo, and the seller states that the body needs attention, the engine runs but leaks oil (as usual, we might add), and the floor mat and driver’s seat are torn (correctly). We would have liked to see more, as GTs in this kind of condition are increasingly rare — but we’re sure some of you are already reaching for the phone to learn more from the seller. Find it for sale at €24,000 (today $27,000) here in MIlano, Italy.
