Twin cam coupé: 1964 Fiat 1600S Coupé by Pininfarina

This car was built in an era when Fiat truly knew how to make cars. The Fiat 1600S “OSCA” stands as the refined outcome of a remarkable collaboration between three giants of Italian motoring: Fiat, OSCA (Officine Specializzate Costruzioni Automobili, founded by the Maserati brothers), and Pininfarina. The result was a car that beautifully combined Fiat’s reliability, Pininfarina’s elegance, and OSCA’s racing pedigree.

In 1957, Ernesto Maserati approached Dante Giacosa, Fiat’s head of engineering, with the idea of creating a lightweight four-cylinder engine that would transfer OSCA’s racing experience to road cars. At that time, Fiat was still tied to its modest 1100 and 1200 engines, so Giacosa embraced the idea. The first version featured a 1,491 cc OSCA twin-cam unit producing 75 hp, followed in 1962 by the more powerful 1600S with 1,568 cc and 90 hp — an impressive figure for an early 1960s grand tourer. The body, designed and built by Pininfarina, blended sporty proportions with refined lines and understated sophistication. Production remained limited: around 814 units were built in total, and only about 270 were coupés — making this version especially rare.

According to the seller, this particular example was manufactured in 1964 and sold new in Bergamo, Italy, where it remained for many years with its first owner. In the 1980s, it moved to Modena before joining a major private collection. With just four owners over more than sixty years, the car has never left Italy and still retains its original registration documents and a completely traceable ownership history. The car has never been restored; the underbody, engine bay, and trunk are all original and solid, showing the benefits of careful long-term preservation. It is currently fitted with wire wheels and also includes its original factory rims. Serviced in 2024 and again in 2025 by a renowned specialist, the car is said to be in excellent mechanical condition and ready to drive. Find it for sale at €46,000 (today $54,000) here in Castelnovo di Sotto, Italy.

  1. Very nice car indeed !

I did reach out to the owner a couple of weeks ago when the car was still published a bit cheaper, to get more intel on the car. When I asked for a picture of the Pininfarina stamp in the booth, the number didn’t start with 120 followed by 3 other digits which I felt was strange. I’m not an expert, but thought this PF number would go from 120000 to 120300. Maybe someone can explain ? FLUC
