This rare 1200 TV Trasformabile (Trasformabile in Italian means that it can be transformed from closed to open, a term used until the late 50s when it was replaced by “Spider”) has been in California for a long time, as evidenced by its black license plate with yellow letters and numbers. However, we do not know if it was sold new in the USA or imported in the 60s.
The fact remains that this is a rare case, as Italian cars at the time had ridiculous engine sizes compared to their American counterparts (like German cars, for that matter) but were quite expensive. Therefore, they were purchased by connoisseurs or Italian-Americans who were nostalgic for their homeland.
Whoever owned it recently started a restoration (which, as very often happens, was stopped halfway through), beginning with the engine, which has been rebuilt. The problem is that the most expensive part of the restoration is still to be done: the bodywork, chrome, and interiors are scattered among various boxes. It is likely that everything necessary to complete the car is present; however, it will still require time, patience, and a thorough checklist. Find it for sale at $10,500 here in Mesa, AZ.
