One of very few: 1950 Lancia Aurelia B50 Coupé by Vignale

If you want to get an idea of what this car might have looked like in 1950, try searching for other foreign cars produced in the same year, and you will realize how advanced cars like this were in terms of design.

Even now, this car shows its age, yet its proportions are still perfect to the discerning eye. Another striking feature of this extremely rare model is the attention to detail, typical of the Vignale bodywork, which has been taken to an extreme level in this model. We can’t even imagine how many hours it would take to shape the aluminum for the external decorations.

In short, this was a luxury car based on a vehicle, the Aurelia B50, which was already an expensive car in itself. The result of the marriage between Vignale and Lancia is splendid and certainly very rare. We don’t know how many examples of this model were built, but we assume it’s fewer than those countable on two hands, and certainly much fewer that are currently in existence. Find it for sale here in Montecatini Terme, Italy. Thanks to Fluc for this tip!

  1. While this is a beautiful body design on a great chassis with a superior drive train, those side grill “teeth” and the dual chrome side trailing lines all beg to be removed. In 1958 it was Buick who applied too much chrome trim, but for 1950 it was Vignale doing the application!
