Italian classic car enthusiasts cannot be unfamiliar with the small Abarth models built to provide the “people” with access to sports category cars, of which this model is a part.
Born as the Fiat 850 Coupé, in 1964, this sports car from Abarth, the 1000 OT (Omologata Turismo), derived from the aforementioned Fiat, hit the market. It featured a new version of the classic 982cc single overhead camshaft engine. The radial head was entirely designed and built by Abarth, with V-shaped valves arranged on perpendicular axes. The combustion chamber consisted of two hemispherical caps, with the smaller one housing the intake valve and the larger one housing the exhaust valve. Aesthetic-wise, the sober and balanced lines designed by Dante Giacosa were retained, achieving an elegant and sporty appearance.
Of course, these cars were much more affordable than a Maserati, an Alfa, or a Ferrari, but that didn’t mean they were accessible to everyone. At the time, it cost approximately 30% less than a Giulia Sprint GT, which was still a significant sum for an average-income citizen. This particular specimen has clearly undergone a comprehensive restoration that has left no aspect of the car untouched: the interior, the spare wheel compartment, and the exterior all appear flawless. These cars have many details that only a true expert can spot, and since we are not experts, we leave it to you to find any imperfections. Find it for sale at €60,000 (today $66,000) here in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
