I remember reading – I think it was 2014 – a post on a specialized Porsche forum entitled “Why aren’t the Carrera 2.7s worth as much as the RS?”. Well, a few months after that post the value of the 2.7 Carreras started to grow up to quintuple.
The post actually made a lot of sense as the RS and the Carrera 2.7, especially in the European version with fewer restrictions on emissions, shared the same 7R type engine and in fact, apart from the formalisms and some peculiarities, it was basically the same car. Well someone, as already written, noticed it and cars that could be bought for $30k ended up costing five times as much.
This car in particular is an American version, therefore weakened to contain polluting emissions, but it nevertheless remains a rare car: 246 Targas were produced and sold in the American market, which classifies it as a very rare car which, among other, it has a matching numbers engine. The appearance is fairly standard, some artificial replacements are evident such as the front valance and the seats which, although with a comfortable and anatomical appearance, are not original, as well as the rear lid “ducktail” characteristic of the RS but not of this model. It should definitely be inspected in person but in our opinion it would be worth it. Find it for sale at $59,500 here in Astoria, NY.
