Oldest isn’t cheapest: 1957 Fiat 500 N

What does the collecting value of a car depend on? Rarity? Beauty? Sports pedigree? Pop culture? Surely it is a value derived from the crossing of all the previous ones, but in some cases it is still difficult to calculate it.

One of “those cases” is certainly related to this Fiat 500N (chassis # 110 * 001268) which appears to have been produced in the second week of the start of production of this model and registered 62 years ago, on 8 July 1957. The owner says that this is the first car registered: we do not understand if it means that this is the existing 500N with the oldest registration or the first registered ever.

The car still has its original plates and the owner says he did a painstaking job of restoration, among which stands out the fabric of the interior redone (and produced on request) according to the original specifications. All glasses except one of the door (the side is not specified) are original. How much is this collector’s item worth? We don’t know, however you can find it for sale at €150,000 (today $167,000) here in Verona, Italy.
