The first V6: 1951 Lancia Aurelia B20 Coupé

The car published here is one of the most iconic automobiles of postwar Italian production: the Lancia Aurelia B20 GT Coupé, in its first series from 1951, of which only 499 units were built.

The Aurelia was a revolutionary model for its time: designed under Vittorio Jano and launched in 1950, it was the first production car in the world to feature a V6 engine. The 1,991 cc power unit, developed by engineer Francesco De Virgilio, combined mechanical refinement with impressive performance, marking a turning point in automotive engineering. The B20 GT, a two-door 2+2 coupé, was styled by Pinin Farina and assembled by Ghia. Its sleek and compact design made it ideal for fast touring as well as for competition. In fact, already in 1951 the Aurelia B20 distinguished itself at the Mille Miglia, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and numerous international races, earning its reputation as one of the very first true grand tourers.

This example stands out for its authentic condition: the interior still retains its original fabrics and instrumentation, the engine bay is correct and complete, and the chrome details are well preserved. Only the paintwork, whose shine seems a bit too vivid for a car over 70 years old, suggests it may have been refreshed at some point. Overall, however, the car has retained its rare originality and coherent character. Particularly notable is the presence of its original black license plate with only four digits, a highly desirable detail among collectors.

The car is also ASI registered, holds the Targa Oro certification, and has been part of historic clubs such as Club Campidoglio and Club Lancia. This also makes it eligible for the Mille Miglia, one of the most sought-after features for international collectors. Finding today a first-series Aurelia B20 GT that preserves so many original elements is extremely rare: most surviving examples have been modified, over-restored, or lost their historical coherence. This car therefore represents a unique opportunity for those seeking authenticity. Find it for sale at €128,000 (today $150,000) here in Eboli, Italy.
