German fastback: 1968 BMW 1600 GT by Frua

Unlike the majority of the 1600 GTs which were produced under the name Glas, this particular model is indeed a BMW. Between 1964 and 1967, Glas manufactured 5,376 GTs, including 363 convertibles. From June 1967 to August 1968, an additional 1,259 cars were produced under the BMW badge after BMW acquired Glas. This transition makes the BMW 1600 GT an interesting piece of automotive history, blending the legacy of two distinguished companies.

The BMW 1600 GT design was crafted by Giovanni Michelotti, known for his elegant and streamlined designs. The exterior of the 1600 GT showcases Michelotti’s aesthetic vision with smooth lines and well-placed details, creating a perfect balance between elegance and sportiness. The characteristic BMW kidney grille dominates the front end, flanked by striking headlights, giving the car an unmistakable presence.

The specific 1968 BMW 1600 GT offered here remains in its original, unrestored condition and has always been garage kept. The previous owner had the car for many years and rarely drove it, which means the vehicle now requires some attention, both cosmetically and mechanically. There is still a lot of work to do on this car which, on the other hand, looks quite solid and complete. Find it for sale at €37,500 (today $41,000) here in Brummen, Netherlands.
