We’re always surprised to see a Fiat like this in the U.S., for a few clear reasons—starting with the fact that, considering the long distances to cover in the United States, a 1100 cc engine from the 1960s was simply too small to last more than a few years.
Then there’s the matter of capacity: while this is certainly a roomy car by Italian standards, compared to the American station wagons of the era—whose cargo areas were so large they could handle an entire move in just a few trips—this looks like a toy car. Clearly, the original owner’s decision to buy this vehicle was driven by stylistic reasons, emotional attachment, or both.
That said, this version is quite rare even in Italy; in the U.S., there are probably fewer running examples than you can count on one hand—but that’s just our assumption. The seller states the car has been parked since 1989, and perhaps that’s what saved it. Aside from the interior, where the vinyl was used by a mouse to build his nest, the car appears to be in decent shape: it could use a thorough wash, but it looks more like a car that was parked than one truly abandoned. It even has the rare original roof rack, and we believe that with just a few touches, this car could be back on the road: Fiat engines were small in displacement but big in durability.
