Blue under the skin: 1961 Lancia Appia Convertibile by Vignale

We don’t know what kind of experiment the person who repainted this Appia Convertibile many years ago had in mind, but one thing is certain: they would have done better to leave its original color, Azzurro Vincennes, a classic shade of the era, particularly favored by Lancia and Maserati.

This yellow (or what’s left of it), in fact, seems more suited to a car with sporting ambitions than to a leisurely convertible. First of all, we’re talking about a 60-horsepower car — not exactly a traffic-light sprinter — and secondly, because Lancias in that period were synonymous with elegance, well before they became sporting icons between the mid-1960s and mid-1990s.

The condition of the car is just as it appears: a complete restoration project, mostly complete (though the seats are missing in the photos, and the seller makes no mention of them), and we assume the floorpans aren’t in great shape either. There are also no engine bay photos, so we can’t say what lies under the hood — however, we imagine the seller is willing to provide all the photographic documentation needed to any seriously interested party. Find ot for sale at €7,900 (today $9,100) here in Torino, Italy.
