The 1963 Apollo 3500 GT represents a fascinating chapter in automotive history, blending American muscle with Italian elegance. Conceived by International Motor Cars in 1962 and bringing together the talents of Milt Brown, Ron Plescia, and Ned Davis, the Apollo was an ambitious project that aimed to offer the best of both worlds: the reliability and power of American engineering with the sophistication and style of Italian design.
The bodies for these cars were crafted by Carrozzeria Intermeccanica in Italy, known for their exceptional quality, and were then shipped to the United States for final assembly. The Apollo 3500 GT was powered by a Buick 215 cu. in. V8 engine, an all-alloy unit praised for its excellent power-to-weight ratio and compact size. This choice of engine ensured the Apollo had a low curb weight of approximately 2,500 lbs and could produce about 200 hp, which translated into remarkable performance figures for the time, including a 0 to 60 mph sprint in 7.5 seconds. The car’s handling was further enhanced by its well-balanced front/rear weight distribution, thanks to the lightweight engine.
This particular car is for sale by the owner who says that he recently bought a Convertible, otherwise he would not ever part with it. We don’t know if the car has ever been restored or if it’s original (sure the paint doesn’t look original – too shiny) but the color combo is very nice as the interiors are grey insted of the usual black. No other info have been provided but the car looks overall very nice and correct. Find it for sale at $159,000 here in Manhattan Beach, CA. Thanks to Kyle for this tip!
