Flamboyant look: 1958 Fiat 1200 Trasformabile

We’re in the middle of summer so posting two spiders for two consecutive posts won’t shock anyone.

Once again it is an Italian car, a Fiat built in a period in which Fiat knew how to build cars, cars that could often overshadow much more prestigious brands, also because the production range varied from the small utility car to the luxury sedan/coupé. Unfortunately, when the number guys are put at the helm of the car companies in place of car guys, these companies inexorably decline until they become extinct.

But at least evidence of past glory remains, such as this beautiful spider designed by Luigi Rapi, known for having also designed the Fiat 8V, the “Panoramica” line built by Zagato, the Fiat Aerodinamica and other jewels. Obviously everyone prefers the previous series, the 1100, which has an even more flamboyant look, but in this 1200 the designer’s spirit has certainly not been lost. The car is in apparently excellent condition and also has its books, original steering wheel, original (rare) hubcaps and key fob from the Fiat dealer of the time, it is evident that it has been pampered throughout its life. If you’re looking for this model and you live in the USA, you probably don’t need to look anywhere else. Find it for sale at $42,000 here in Cohasset, MA.
