Bare minimum: 1960 Lotus Elite

This car could be called the perfect sports car: light, easy to handle, cheap to maintain, beautiful. It is difficult to find all these qualities together in another car.

Sure, it’s probably not comfortable, but sporty and comfortable together are an oxymoron, so we won’t consider this last aspect. The fact is that when new, this car with a mere 75bhp engine could reach 112mph which, in 1960, was territory reserved for much more expensive cars.

This specimen would seem to be the perfect candidate for a restoration: the aluminum bodywork has no bumps, the engine compartment has missing parts and the important things are there, the same goes for the interior. Obviously it must be completely disassembled but, considering the simplicity of construction, it will take very little time. Find it for sale at $56,500 here in Astoria, NY.
