Pillarless rarity: 1950 Fiat 1100 Vittoria by Balbo

And here’s another “Vittoria,” the same name for a car that is neither a Lancia nor built by Bertone: this one is based on a Fiat 1100B and constructed by Balbo, one of the historic coachbuilders from Turin and arguably one of the “top five,” if such a ranking existed.

Unlike the car featured on Monday, although this one is also an exceptionally rare example, the difference is striking. Here we have a car in the middle of a restoration—which is perfectly fine—but this emphasizes the need to verify or locate all the parts. Not so much the mechanical components, which are relatively easier to source, but the trim, bezels, and interior details, often custom-made and nearly impossible to find on the market. If they’re missing, they’ll need to be fabricated from scratch, provided you have a reference maquette to work from.

The seller states that the car is complete, and we have no reason to doubt it. From the photos, however, it’s not entirely clear what’s present and what’s missing. We can clearly see that the rear window (shaped like a windshield) has been reconstructed in polycarbonate (as it was originally, given that the technology to curve glass in the design envisioned by Balbo didn’t exist back then), and the bodywork has a nice coat of paint. Beyond that, we can’t draw any further conclusions. Find it for sale at €165,000 (today $ 170,000) here in Monsummano Terme, Italy. Thanks to Fluc for this tip!
