One-off: 1933 Fiat 508 Balilla Coupé Royal by Castagna

Seeing this small car for the first time is a special moment, and it will probably be the only opportunity, as it is said to be a one-of-a-kind model.

The Carrozzeria Castagna of Milan worked extensively in the 1920s and 1930s, especially on Lancia vehicles, creating magnificent cars like the Astura 233C Aerodinamica and the Dilambda Coupé Royal. These were all significant cars based on very expensive chassis and engines. However, the client for this car, despite undoubtedly having a more limited budget, still wanted to stand out from the crowd.

The base of this car is the 508 Balilla, which, in the 1930s, was far from being accessible to most people but not as prestigious as a Lancia. We do not know if the chassis was shortened, but the overall appearance is very compact and charming. There are details that seem almost timeless, such as the lanterns on the B-pillar, an accessory that has miraculously survived to this day and visible in the sketch of Luigi Rapi posted here. Although the overall condition of the car is not museum-quality, it still seems to be in good shape. This is definitely a specimen that deserves to be preserved and valued. Find it for sale at €28,000 (today $30,000) here in Rottofreno, Italy.
