The Isdera Imperator 108i is an exceedingly rare supercar, with only 30 units ever manufactured. It boasts a distinctive wedge-shaped design and Gullwing-style doors, making it stand out among its contemporaries. It is the only left-hand drive, UK-market model ever delivered and is powered by a potent 5.0-liter Mercedes-Benz V8 engine. Notably, it demonstrated remarkable performance in a 1987 road test, competing favorably with established supercars like the Lamborghini Countach 5000 QV.
The car’s founder, Eberhard Schulz, has a unique background, having worked in Porsche’s styling and concept department before establishing Isdera. The Imperator 108i, produced from 1984 to 1993, maintained the original concept introduced by the CW311, featuring a fiberglass body on a steel spaceframe. While undergoing subtle design changes, including the elimination of pop-up headlamps and adoption of Mercedes-Benz taillights, the car’s performance was enhanced with Mercedes-Benz V8 engines.
This Isdera Imperator 108i is a captivating example among the rare 30-unit production. Notably, 17 cars received a design facelift in 1992, including the reintroduction of pop-up headlamps and revised bodywork. This specific car, one of the last first-series models, was ordered in 1990 and expected to be delivered to Isdera-Japan but listed with the UK-based Sunport London, Ltd. The involvement of Mike Thackwell, a former racing driver, adds intrigue to its history. The car features a desirable 5.0-liter Mercedes-Benz M119 V8 engine, Guards Red exterior, black leather interior, Recaro bucket seats, and has been well-preserved, with an odometer reading of less than 3,500 kilometers.
