In 1932, just three years after the 1929 crisis, many sectors of the economy were on shaky ground, including (and especially) the automotive industry.
Many industries in the Old Continent were forced to close, while others had to drastically reduce production. Against the tide, Peugeot chose to fight the crisis by continuing to invest in what it believed in, and thus the 301 was born, produced in various versions: Limousine, sedan, commercial sedan, convertible, and coupe. For the latter, we don’t have production numbers, but don’t bet against the fact that many were produced.
This is, in fact, the rarest version of the 304 series (excluding the ultra-rare Eclipse), mainly because the coupe was a type of car requested by fewer users, although it was aesthetically the most beautiful. Following the tradition of the lion emblem brand, it featured front-wheel drive powered by a 1465 cc 4-cylinder engine delivering 35 hp at 4000 rpm. The specimen shown here is said to have never been restored and is completely original, including the engine. As indicated by the seller, attention should be paid to rust in the undercarriage, while the body has a patina consistent with the car’s age but is essentially in good condition. The interiors are clearly original, and it’s a miracle that they haven’t been destroyed by rodents. Find it for sale here in Farnham, UK. Thanks to Kyle for this tip!
