Streamlined/2: 1935 Fiat 508 CS “Aerodinamica”

The Fiat 508 Balilla was introduced in 1932 as a compact passenger car positioned for the domestic Italian market. In 1933-1934, Fiat developed several upgraded versions intended for sporting use, including the 508S and subsequently the 508CS.

The 508CS (Corsa Sport) was characterized by a shortened and reinforced chassis, a 995cc four-cylinder engine with modified cylinder head, and a 4-speed gearbox. These technical updates were aimed at improving performance in long-distance and endurance competitions. It was available with multiple body configurations produced by various coachbuilders. Among these, the Aerodinamica version, developed in collaboration with Carrozzeria Ghia, introduced a streamlined body shape designed to reduce aerodynamic drag. This design reflected contemporary aerodynamic research and was applied to a limited number of units.

The example described in this document is a Fiat 508CS Aerodinamica fitted with the 995cc engine and 4-speed gearbox. The car was located in original condition by the current owner and acquired in the late 2010s. Following its acquisition and importation, the vehicle was subject to a complete restoration, carried out to return all mechanical and aesthetic components to their original specifications. Upon completion, the car was presented at several European Concours d’Elegance events, where it received multiple awards in the restoration category. The car retains what appears to be its original license plate. Compared to other known examples of this model, this is the first instance we have documented one finished in a blue color scheme. In 2020, the car was accepted for participation in the Mille Miglia retrospective race, which it completed without mechanical incidents. Find it for sale here in Baarle-Hertog, Belgium.
