Spy white: 1953 Bentley R-Type Continental Fastback by Mulliner

The 1953 Bentley R-Type Continental Fastback, chassis BC10LB, is one of the most significant and exclusive post-war Bentley models. One of only 41 left-hand drive examples produced, this H.J. Mulliner-bodied grand tourer is highly sought after for its rarity, performance, and provenance.

Originally ordered by Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond, on behalf of his close associate Ivar Bryce, this Bentley carries a direct connection to one of the most influential literary figures of the 20th century. Bryce, a former British intelligence officer, was a key inspiration for the character Felix Leiter in the Bond series. Specified with a manual gearbox, lightweight seats, and fender spats, the car was originally finished in Deep Grey and included bespoke elements such as fitted luggage and a racehorse mascot. It retains its matching-numbers engine and original interior, maintaining a high degree of authenticity.

A California black-plate car, this Bentley is mechanically sound and drives well. It was also a 1971 Pebble Beach Class Winner, further cementing its significance within the collector community. This vehicle remains in well-preserved condition, retaining its original components and historical specifications. Last but not least, documented ownership history and period-correct features further underscore its status among post-war Bentley models, available for sale, of course, not for a song. Find it for sale at $1,095,000 here in Astoria, NY.
