Cop car: 1970 Plymouth Cuda 340

We’ve seen many unique cars, but it’s the first time we’ve come across a muscle car used as a cop car.

This 1970 Cuda was actually ordered brand new by a police officer who, in addition to including an enormous amount of optional extras (so much so that they had to add a second fender tag at the factory to include all the purchased options), also equipped it with the appropriate police radio equipment of the era, as well as a siren, visible in the engine compartment.

All of this is fascinating in itself, but when you add to it complete documentation of all the work done from day one, the original build sheet, the original purchase invoice, a photographic feature in a specialized magazine, and the fact that it’s all original and ,never restored, both inside and out, it becomes a museum-worthy car, without a doubt. Find it for sale at $58,000 here in Wrightwood, CA.

  1. I would point out that this was a “cop’s car”, not a cop car. In other words it was owned by a cop, not by a police department. Still a nice car, and would have been a great addition to my collection 20+ years ago. Today it’s unlikely I could even get into it, much less drive it like I stole it!

  2. Well, in forty years, since I got my driving license, I learned that to drive an ex cop car, or something similar to that, has its unespected benefits: nobody argues, everybody eases your “sorpasso” (overtaking), lot of people gives you the precedence even if you do not deserve it,(pedestrians on zebra walk too! But I always stop to let them cross the road)… Now I understand why the Elwood Blues chose that Dodge. By the way, a friend told me that when in Warsaw she saw a taxi driver who adopted an Italian Police look-a-like Alfa Romeo Alfetta!
