This Ardex T-53, built between 1954 and 1956, is a two-seater mini-roadster with a lightweight wooden body. The model was powered by a Briban Pantin single-cylinder two-stroke engine with 100 or 125cc, producing 4 or 5 hp. At just 2.4 meters in length and weighing only 95 kg, the T-53 was designed as an affordable and compact vehicle.
Marcel Tamine began producing microcars—then called cyclecars—in Nanterre, France, in 1932. Under the Ardex brand, his company built a variety of small vehicles, including three- and four-wheel models with gasoline, electric, and even pedal-powered variants. Production continued until 1968, spanning both pre- and post-war periods. The Ardex T-53 is among the rarest models, featuring an elegant design reminiscent of Morgan three-wheelers.
This particular vehicle comes from a microcar collector who is downsizing due to a new construction project. It remains in fully original condition, though it has not been started or driven in years. While restoration to running order may be possible, the car is likely best suited for a collection or museum display. The fabric on the seats and convertible top has aged and would require replacement. No registration papers are available, as they were lost decades ago. The 2023 book “French Microcars 1935 – 1960” by Jan de Lange dedicates 24 pages to Ardex, highlighting its significance in French automotive history. Estimates suggest that only around five T-53s still exist worldwide, making this example likely the only one in completely original condition.
