According to the seller, this rare DKW F91 Cabriolet is in well-preserved condition. The car runs, brakes, and was repainted many years ago while stored in a garage.
The body shows no visible rust, no welding work is required, and the mechanical components are in working order. The original interior and the first vehicle registration document (Kfz-Brief) have been preserved. A complete repaint would enhance the car’s already rare and desirable status. We have rarely seen a Cabriolet version of the DKW F91, and even more rarely have we encountered one in almost-preserved condition.
The DKW F91 Sonderklasse was introduced in March 1953 at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt. Developed by Auto Union GmbH, it was based on the pre-war DKW F9 design. Unlike its predecessor, the F89, which retained the two-cylinder engine of the DKW F8, the F91 featured a three-cylinder engine. Production took place in Düsseldorf between March 1953 and September 1955, with a total of 57,407 sedans and coupés built. Karmann produced an additional 1,550 two- and four-seater convertibles, making this model one of the rarest variants. Find it for sale at €38,000 (today $41,500) here in Esslingen, Germany.
