Pure 70s: 1974 Citroen SM

This car is absolutely divisive: you either love it or hate it, but it certainly can’t leave anyone indifferent, thanks to its bold design that follows the modernist trends of the late 1960s.

Of course, we love it, and we can confidently say that this model is the forerunner of all the powerful 4-seaters we see on the roads today: a car where four people, along with their luggage, can travel comfortably (in every sense) on long journeys, with the luxury of a true grand touring car and high cruising speeds thanks to the Maserati V6 under the hood. Let’s not forget that 170 horsepower, forty years ago, was quite something.

However, over the years, this car became a nightmare for many, given its complex mechanical architecture, which makes repairs expensive, especially considering the relatively low market values it had up until 10 years ago. Today, though, more and more collectors have re-evaluated this model, particularly when it’s in the condition of this example. The seller describes it as “well-kept”, but to us, it looks like a car in almost perfect condition, both inside and out, with a color combination that screams “70s.” It’s a pity there are no photos of the engine bay, but we believe it wouldn’t be difficult to request them from the seller. Find it for sale at €59,900 (today $67,000) here in San Lorenzo di Sebato, Italy.
