Pastelblau: 1973 BMW 1802 Coupé

The BMW 1802, part of the BMW E10 series, first hit the roads on June 5, 1973. This particular model, boasting a “Pastelblau” (pastel blue) finish, stands out not only for its color but also for the extensive restoration it underwent between June 2021 and April 2022. The restoration was thorough, addressing both mechanical and bodywork aspects to ensure the car not only looks stunning but also performs exceptionally well.

The restoration process saw the inclusion of numerous high-quality components and modifications. The heart of this 1802 is a 4-cylinder 1800 cm3 M10 engine, producing around 90 HP. It features a 4/1 collector and a custom stainless steel exhaust line with a central outlet. A K&N air filter enhances its breathing capability. The car is equipped with new brakes and adjustable “D2 Racing” coilovers, providing improved handling and stopping power. The body has been repainted in its original Pastelblau color, with additional bodywork repairs ensuring a pristine appearance. It also sports a 2002 Turbos body kit and Rota 9×15 rims, giving it a more aggressive stance. Inside, the car features a black leather dashboard with gray stitching, bucket seats from Braum Racing and a MOMO steering wheel and gear knob. The Cisal carpet and body-colored interior maintain a cohesive and stylish look.

The only comment we have about this beautiful creation is that such an aggressive look deserved matching performance. We are sure the installed 2-liter engine is fun, but probably a swap with a 320 IS engine would be ideal for this little rascal. Find it for sale at€21,490 (today $23,000) here in Versailles, France.

  1. You are spot on with the comment regarding the engine, I did that in my 1968 1602. Should have gone further and replaced the 2 barrel Zenith with Webber side drafts. Anything from 320 model years 1980 or before bolts right in including the rear end. Dropping long block from a post 1980 320 would require modifications to the oil pan.
