The One and Only: 1984 Sbarro Super Eight

In the vibrant world of 1980s automotive design, Franco Sbarro, a Swiss-Italian engineer and visionary, stood out as a maverick. He constantly pushed boundaries with innovative, unique, and bold vehicles. His 1984 Sbarro Super Eight is no exception.

Sbarro initially shocked the automotive world with the Super Twelve in 1982, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. This compact powerhouse boasted an inline-12 engine and weighed just 800kg, wrapped in a striking gradient paint. However, the Super Twelve’s complexity and finicky handling led Sbarro to shelve the project. Undeterred, and with the support of Bernard Grohe, Sbarro revisited the concept, unveiling the Super Eight in 1984. Sharing the striking aesthetics of its predecessor, the Super Eight swapped the inline-12 for a Ferrari 308 GTB QV V8 engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

This Super Eight is truly one of a kind, meticulously maintained, fully operational, and equipped with Dutch registration. Its Ferrari-derived heart and bold styling make it a city-friendly “Ferrari avant la lettre.” Ready to turn heads and ignite conversations, this unique creation awaits a new owner who appreciates its singular charm and fascinating legacy, even though it won’t come cheap. Find it for sale at €250,000 (today $260,000) here in Paris, France.
