Ok that’s the first time that we realize that Viotti made a Giardinetta coachbuild also on the Lancia Appia platform.
Indeed we wrongly believed that Viotti has built Giardinetta’s (Viotti’s trade mark for the station wagon bodies) only on Fiat platforms but just for this reason we have a further proof that in the classic cars world you’ll never stop to learn new things, and that humility is a must.
This particular car is of course to restore, it has rust which need a good amount of work to be fixed but it’s however a good and complete car and, moreover, it’s very rare so it’s worth the effort. The seller says that only five of these cars are still going around and that could be a correct estimate, considering the fact that this is the first car we have seen so far. Find it for sale at €3,000 (today $3,600) here in Dolo, Italy.
Classic Virus 
Not only did Viotti build a Giardinetta on the Appia platform, they also built at least one based on a Michelotti design for the Aurelia B51, as evidenced by a photograph in the book Carrosseria Viotti Torino. There was also a one-off two-door woody on the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 chassis.
It is interesting to note that the term Giardinetta was a registered trade mark of Viotti, and when Fiat started building their own version, they called it a Giardiniera. This was built by Fiat well into the 1970’s, using their 500 as a basis.
